Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Velindre Oncology Academy is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 A standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below. Date: 18 March 2025

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Whilst we endeavour to meet ‘WCAG 2.2 AA’ we currently have the following non-compliance issues:

WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible. At 200% zoom and more, the keyboard focus is not fully visible on the navigation menu – it can only be seen from the top but not the bottom.
WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG 1.4.9 Images of Text (No Exception) – Images of text are only used for pure decoration or where a particular presentation of text is essential to the information being conveyed. Some of our content is images of text. Where any images or images of text are used on the website, alternative text is input.
WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG 2.4.8 Location. At the moment, we don’t have breadcrumbs that show the website user where they are on the website. However, all pages are titled very clearly and this can be used to distinguish each page.
WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG 3.3.6 Error Prevention (All). Currently, our forms do not have a facility to allow for reversibility of submission. The forms also do not have a facility to prompt the user to check their responses before submission. The data input by users is checked for certain input errors (e.g. email address formats)

Navigation and accessing information

It’s not possible for users to change text size without some of the content overlapping.
Some devices such as tablets may not perform fully as expected.
There’s no way to skip the repeated content in the page header (for example, a ‘skip to main content’ option).
It’s not always possible to change the device orientation from horizontal to vertical without making it more difficult to view the content.

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Our website does not hold information that is targeted at patients.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services. We will endeavour to make any new PDFs or Word documents accessible wherever possible.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We strive to make new content as accessible as possible.

As an organisation, we:

Work with colleagues to improve awareness and understanding of digital accessibility;
Encourage the use of plain language and inclusive writing;
Encourage the use of accessible HTML content wherever possible;
Assist staff in the creation of accessible videos, including subtitles, transcripts with audio descriptions;
Work with the website developers to identify issues when they arise to seek a fix or an accessible alternative solution
Carry out ‘spot checks’ on published pages and documents to ensure they are as digitally accessible as possible.
